New Direction-ish

I don't know whether you all have noticed, but my blog has been working to find a  focus since we all started chatting with you way back last October. First I'd write about the silly things that happened on our walks (remember that cell phone dropping into the still steaming poop?), then I'd write about some serious issue that I read in The New York Times, like the trend to surgically de-bark dogs just to make life a little quieter for humans. Well, I'm still going to write about those things, how could I not?!

But since learning about and participating in the BlogPaws conference, I really want my blog to focus mainly on 2 things:
__ Promoting adoption and shelter/ rescue efforts for human companion animals (yes, cats too... remember, I live with one), not just in the U.S., but all over our beautiful planet.  Hey, maybe I'll get a passport (that I can eat)!
__ Promoting select products and services that I (in consultation with my Parental Unit) think you'll be interested in and benefit from.
See what Parental Unit and I learned at the conference about product reviews here: www.blogpaws.com/2010/04/product-reviews-a-right-way-and-a-wrong-way.html#more

**If we do any promotions of products or services, there will always be some free give-a-ways of those products or services, or at least some hefty discounts, through fun contests, (and who knows what else!) -offered to my faithful Followers!**

So my Parental Unit and I are asking for your support and advice as we embark on these new missions.
What do you have to say? Any products or services that you'd like to hear about? Any specific pet shelters/rescues, or other heroic efforts that you think are worthy or will benefit from some kind of attention?
Please let me know! Whadaya say we work together on this?

Surprise! We're On Cesar Millan's Web Site!

I think I mentioned to you all that when Parental Unit and I returned home from the BlogPaws conference, Parental Unit spent several days chained to her computer and on the phone. I couldn't figure out why, but I could tell she was giddy with excitement.
Well, she just showed me this link to...none other than Cesar Millan's web site, Cesar's Way! We are proud to announce that we have written an article about the BlogPaws conference for the pack leader of all pack leaders, Cesar! (I helped by reminding Parental Unit of some key points about the conference, which due to her advanced years, she had forgotten). Check it out here: www.cesarsway.com/news/dognews/BlogPaws-Conference
Hope you enjoy!

P.S. Don't pass out, Agatha and Archie!

Be The Change!

I know you all have enjoyed reading about my antics at the recent BlogPaws conference (don't even mention doggie day care to Parental Unit or she'll faint), but what I haven't talked about is the heart of the BlogPaws conference - to help pet shelters and rescue organizations meet the needs of their increasing populations of abandoned animals.
Well, I can speak with authority on that subject, because I was an abandoned pup myself. With all the 'beefing" I've been doing, I still know that I'm a heck of a lucky dog (don't tell Parental Unit I admitted that!) to have found this terrific home.
Anyway, the least I can do is give back by using my blog to promote the adoption and rescue of abandoned animals, and to support the shelters and rescues that allow us to find good, loving homes.
Pets Without Parents is one of  3 such shelters that BlogPaws has chosen to help. On April 16th (I'm a bit tardy!), they lauched a campaign to rally bloggers to the cause. So check out this site: firstgiving.com/blogpawty to  make a donation and learn how to use your own blog to help the cause. Thanks from me and all my rescued pet friends!

Shocking Behavior Revealed!

There comes a time in every dog's life when he must admit his mistakes, put them behind him (or cover them up with grass as the case may be), and move on.

So I've finally decided to reveal my "faux pas" at the BlogPaws conference to clear the air. But first, keep a few things in mind:
On the day of the conference, Parental Unit had not taken me for my usual hour morning walk (she was too busy primping for the daylong festivities). Our kind neighbor did come over with her doggie, Jordy, and we romped in the yard a few times. But if you're a fan of The Dog Whisperer, you know that back yard play is no substitute for a daily walk with your pack leader!

Anyway, Parental Unit took me around to all the exhibitor booths where I was a favorite for pictures and treats. But instead of taking me with her to the next workshop, she took me to the "doggie daycare" kindly provided by the conference. The problem was I'd never been indoors with a bunch of other dogs before, so I proceeded to "mark my territory", well, everywhere! (For some reason, I thought the water bowl looked like a nice spot). Then all those treats got the better of me, so I really marked my territory, if you know what I mean.
Then, when the pet sitters opend the gate to let another pooch out, I saw my chance to escape and ran through the gate into the hotel lobby-oops! There was so much shreiking of my name that I turned around and came back!
Needless to say, when Parental Unit learned of my antics, she was mortified, and still hasn't recovered from the embarrassment. So if you could offer her any words of consolation, I'd be grateful...

While you're thinking of the right words, take a look at more pictures from BlogPaws right here: All photo credits go to Brad Smith Photography!

The ballroom at the Westin filled with eager bloggers.

Yep, here it is-the place of my faux pas.

                    Here's a happy fella!

See, I wasn't the only one who thought the carpets were indoor grass!

Well Behaved Dogs And Their Parental Units

Speaking of learning, I got to attend one of the informational workshops at BlogPaws, called
"Better Business Blogging-Using Your blog To Engage With Customers". While I was squirming and chewing through my leash, Parentl Unit was taking notes about important stuff like: figuring out your blog's target audience, and how to leverage a blog to increase traffic and sales. There were three great  speakers, too-one was Natalie Malaszenko, the director of E-Commerce for Petco (where the pets go!). She said that a blog is a great place to show your personality-I know I do!
Anyway, at this same workshop, there was a gal named Carol Bryant, who's the Editorial and Marketing Director for a famous magazine called FIDO Friendly.  Take a look at this fabulous magazine celebrating "9 Years In The Barking" right here: www.fidofriendly.com.
And see Carol and her perfectly behaved pooch, Zola below.

Hey Parental Unit, I'd look at you with adoring eyes just like Zola if you had a bag of treats in your lap-duh!

Pictures From BlogPaws 2010!

We're both still reeling from all the fun we had at the BlogPaws conference, right here in Columbus, Ohio!
I went today for a few hours and made so many new friends-I think it made Parental Unit feel bad because everyone, even some real celebrities, asked to have their picture taken with me! As usual, she managed to elbow her way in to a few, but they came out pretty good anyway. See for yourself...

Can you guess who that superstar gal is on your left with her arms around me? It's Andrea Arden, star of Animal Planet's Underdog To Wonderdog!  She said plain as day that I was her favorite kind of dog-scruffy!

And here's yet another beautiful gal with her arms around me, Christina Kwan, the network manager from Dogtime Media. Bocci's Beefs has been on their blog netowork for a long time and we love it! Check them out here: www.dogtimemedia.com.

And here I am greeting a Pug that came with one of the conference attendees-he got a kick out of me trying to lick his dog's face! I heard Parental Unit say under her breath that I was probably "basting" the poor fellow for future consumption. "Not"!

More on the actual learning and networking stuff that went on at the conference (and my shocking behavior in doggie day care) coming soon!

My Personal Photographer... And Pictures Of Me!

I've been anxious to show you all some really great photos of...me! (The world revolves around ME, doesn't it?) As I mentioned before, Rachel, my photographer, is poised to graduate from a great art and design school, The Columbus College of Art and Design-check them out here: www.ccad.edu. Of course, she's majoring in photography!

And she's even participating in the art auction for BlogPaws 2010, the pet blogging conference I've been yakking about. Check here for updated conference info: BlogPaws.com  (Half of the proceeds of each piece of pet art auctioned, by the way, goes to a local no-kill shelter and half goes to the artist.)
And Rachel has some new pics on her web site, so enjoy them here: www.rachellaurenphotography.com

Anyway, here's what a really great photographer can do - they can make even me, a mutt from the pound, look quite handsome. So enough about me, what do you think of me?

And one more of me and my Parental Unit!

Hope you enjoy!

Not Your Grandmother's Blog

I just had to pass on this article on the front page of The New York Times Style section today about blogging titled, "The Rising Stars of Gossip Blogs". Read it here: www.nytimes.com/2010/04/01/fashion/01gossips.html

It says that, "The lines between 'reporter' and 'blogger', 'gossip' and 'news' have blurred almost beyond distinction. No longer is blogging something that marginalized editorial wannabes do from home, in a bathrobe, because they haven't found a 'real' job. Blogging now is a career path in its own right, offering visability, influence, and an actual paycheck." The article shows pictures and profiles of nine, 20-something bloggers who are poised to make it big in the cyberspace of gossip blogging.

O.K. folks, what about your good old fashioned, pet blogs? Why isn't what we talk about interesting to all of cyberspace and worthy of a ( O.K. my) picture in The Times? I've got lots to say, dang it, and it might actually be more interesting than celebrity gossip. What do you think?

P.S. I wonder if they get to go to a 2 day conference at a luxurious hotel-see www.blogpaws.com - eat your heart out ya whippersnappers!
